How we work

They are about how a matter is staffed, how it is billed, and what you get told. Hold us to them.

You get costs estimates in writing

Before we take a matter on, you get a written estimate of what each stage is likely to cost.

Estimates move as a matter develops. When they move, you hear it from us, not from an invoice.

A partner runs your matter

The person you meet is the person doing the work.

You will know at the outset who is on your file and at what rate. That does not change without us telling you.

You’ll know what happens next

At any point you should be able to say what the next step is, who is doing it, and when it is due.

You will not have to chase us for it.

We’ll tell you the costs upfront

Whether a dispute is worth pursuing is a commercial decision, and it is yours. We cannot make it for you, and we cannot give you financial advice.

What we can do is make sure you never make it in the dark. That includes being straight about the risk that a dispute costs you more than your own legal fees.

We would rather raise that at the start and lose the matter than raise it later and keep it.

What we are not

We are not a substitute for a large firm on a matter that genuinely needs one. If that is what you have, we will say so and tell you who to call.
